Creating Digital Copies

Using the "Print to PDF Annotator" printer, you can create digital copies of PDF documents from within PDF Annotator.

What is a "Digital Copy" and what can I use this for?

A Digital Copy is a printout of a PDF document into a new PDF document.

If, for example, the author has imposed certain restrictions on a document as part of Document Security, a new PDF document can be created using the Digital Copy, which is free of restrictions. Of course, the author of the original document must have authorized Printing for this to happen.

If the Crop Pages feature was used, the no longer visible portion of the pages will still be included in the document. After creating a Digital Copy, the resulting PDF document will only contain the visible portion.

How does a Digital Copy differ from the original?

Since a Digital Copy is a printout, annotations created in PDF Annotator can no longer be edited in the resulting PDF document.

The Digital Copy is a visual copy of the original document. Depending on the font, text in the resulting document may no longer be searchable.

Caution: This function is not suitable for making hidden text (for example covered by black or white color) unreadable.

Creating a Digital Copy of a PDF Document

To create a Digital Copy of a document, open the document and select File Create Digital Copy.

Your document will then automatically print to a new document using the "Print to PDF Annotator" virtual printer.

This process may take some time. Please wait until the newly created file opens in a new file tab.

The feature is only available if the virtual printer "Print to PDF Annotator" has been installed. When doing a standard installation, the printer is installed by default.
The Create Digital Copy feature is not available on devices running on ARM processors (Windows on ARM).
